Welcome!
I am currently working at the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR) as an Algal Toxin and Ecology Research Specialist! I study cyanobacteria blooms in the Great Lakes and investigate the dynamic ways in which they interact with the surrounding ecosystems and impact environmental and community health. I work with long-term water quality datasets to collaborate between field and lab technicians and researchers with expertise in modeling, genomics, biogeochemistry, and carbon cycling. I also get to continue research projects investigating the ecosystem impacts of invasive quagga mussels!
I am interested in aquatic ecology, toxicology, and environmental justice. I strive to link my research to the communities that are impacted by water quality issues. I prioritize community outreach and educational volunteer opportunities alongside the science I conduct. I believe in creating a diverse, accessible, and inclusive field, and actively work to listen to underrepresented voices to create change.
I also study improvisational theatre and sketch comedy writing. I use these skills to become a better science communicator. In early 2024 I started a series of lunchtime workshops where my colleagues and I can practice improv and sketch comedy to gain confidence and grace in communicating our research to any audience.
